As the bed bug problem rises in the USA and around the world so does the need to educate the public. We have noticed that the education has turned into “scare tactics” which makes the issue worse for Pest Management Professionals to take care of their needs. I recently ran into a inspection for bed bugs that lasted almost 3 hours instead of 30 minutes. Why is that you might ask? They were trained by the previous company and thought they knew everything about them including how to do the treatments. That itself was slowing me down with 50 questions about why I was doing things different. Are you going to treat the electrical outlets? The light fixtures? Base boards? How ? Where? Why? I give them an explanation and they turn around and tell me how I should do it. Apparently the previous company did not get rid of them so their course of action doesn’t matter. They were running around like the world was going to end.
The point is don’t listen to people selling fear. You sell fear and you will service fear. This companies prices were outrageous and the were able to sell it by giving the training courses and scaring the heck out of the people. Scare Tactics! The media also loves to make not so good news into the worst news of the year.
